When asking where our stories or “narratives” mental health come from, the most obvious answer is simply: Our lives, duh! Most commonly, someone’s story of mental health is understood as simply a descriptive account arising from and reflecting upon a series of objective life events. For instance, someone might say: ‘I first noticed the symptoms when I was young…I finally received a diagnosis last year…I’ve felt like a new person since being on treatment…..it’s still very hard’ and so forth.
